FaithNet was a call to action for the faith community inYork County and brought together faith-based and community leaders throughout York County to realize the power of collaboration to address the needs of our York County neighbors. FaithNet 2011 provided an important opportunity for faith leaders to meet, engage in dialogue, share experiences and knowledge, and work together to develop the religious community's reponse on three critical issues: poverty, housing and strengthening the family.
Keynote speakers were Rev. Dr. Jonathan West, Susquehanna Conference of the United Methodist Church, Pennsylvania Council of Churches, and Dr. Kevin Daniels, Department of Social Work, Morgan State University. Critical issues speakers were Cindy Daley, Policy Director for the Housing Alliance of Pennsylvania; Loni Smith, Director of the Burdis Family Foundation; and Eric Saunders, Executive Director of New Hope Ministries.
Three break-out sessions focused on each of FaithNet's three crtitcal issues. These working sessions gave participants the opportunity to share experiences, develop strategies and create an action plan to guide the faith community's response to poverty, housing and strengthening the family in York County. Each session was guided by a facilitator: Craig Zumbrun, Deputy Director of the York Housing Authority; Lynne Leopold-Sharp, Director of Financial Stability Porgrams at Lutheran Social Services; and Helen Gyimesi, B.S. Drug and Alcohol Prevention Educator for Memorial Hospital.
